Why Visit Taiwan’s Northeast Coast?
The northeast coast offers some of the most varied scenery near Taipei. In one day, you can see ocean cliffs, volcanic and sandstone rock formations, coastal trails, old fishing harbours, sea caves, headlands and mountain views.
It is also one of the best areas for a flexible private day trip. Some stops involve only a short walk from the road, while others can be turned into longer hikes of one to two hours. This makes the route suitable for mixed-ability groups, families, school groups, photographers and visitors who want to experience Taiwan’s coastline without committing to a difficult mountain hike.
Possible Northeast Coast Stops
Bitou Cape
Bitou Cape is one of the best short coastal hikes in northern Taiwan, with sea cliffs, grassy ridges, ocean views and photo stops along the trail. It can be done as a short scenic walk or as part of a longer northeast coast hiking day.
Nanya Peculiar Stone
Nanya Peculiar Stone is famous for its colourful layered rock formations beside the sea. It is a short stop, but one of the most photogenic places on Taiwan’s northeast coast.
Badouzi Coastal Park
Badouzi offers coastal views, grassy headlands and easy walking areas overlooking the ocean. It is a good option for a relaxed walk, photography stop or family-friendly section of the tour.
Heping Island
Heping Island has unusual coastal geology, sea-eroded rocks and easy walking paths. It is a useful stop for groups interested in geology, coastal scenery and accessible seaside walking.
Yehliu Geopark
Yehliu Geopark is one of Taiwan’s most famous coastal landscapes, known for wind- and sea-eroded rock formations. It can be included in a longer northeast coast day trip if the group wants more sightseeing and geology.
Teapot Mountain or Sandiaoling Waterfall
For a more active day, the northeast coast can be combined with nearby hikes such as Teapot Mountain or Sandiaoling Waterfall. These options add more hiking time and make the day feel like a full guided outdoor adventure.
