Why Hike to Songluo Lake?
Songluo Lake is popular because it gives hikers a proper wilderness-style camping experience within reach of Taipei. The lake is surrounded by mountains and forest, and the cooler altitude makes it especially pleasant for summer camping.
Unlike Taiwan’s higher alpine hikes, Songluo Lake does not require travelling far into the central mountains. Sample 2-Day Songluo Lake Itinerary
Day 1: Taipei to Songluo Lake
We pick you up in Taipei, New Taipei or Taoyuan Airport and drive to the Songluo Lake trailhead in Yilan. After a trip briefing and equipment check, we begin the hike through forest and mountain terrain towards the lake.
The hike usually takes around 5 hours, depending on weather, trail conditions and group pace. On arrival, we set up camp beside the lake, prepare dinner and spend the night surrounded by the mountains.
Day 2: Songluo Lake to Taipei
After breakfast at camp, we pack up carefully and hike back down to the trailhead. We then return by private transport to Taipei, New Taipei or another agreed drop-off point.
The exact itinerary can be adjusted depending on weather, road conditions, group fitness and your travel plans.
Difficulty and Fitness
Songluo Lake is rated 3 out of 5. It is not a technical climb, but it is still a real overnight hiking trip. The trail can be muddy, slippery and uneven, and there are some sections with exposure to heights.
You should be comfortable hiking for around 5 hours while carrying personal clothing, water, snacks and some shared group equipment. We will provide advice before the trip so you know what to bring and how to prepare.
This hike is best for people with some hiking experience or reasonably active beginners who are prepared for a full day on the trail.
Camping at Songluo Lake
We camp beside Songluo Lake in a quiet mountain setting. Tents can be provided, and we can help arrange the group camping setup, cooking equipment and main meals.
Because this is a natural campsite, facilities are basic. You should expect a simple outdoor camping experience rather than a serviced campsite. We follow Leave No Trace principles and ask all guests to help protect the lake, forest and surrounding mountain environment.

Transportation
Private transportation is provided from Taipei, New Taipei or Taoyuan Airport to the Songluo Lake trailhead. Pickups from other locations can usually be arranged, sometimes for a small extra fee.
Vehicles are insured, drivers are licensed and we follow Taiwan traffic regulations.
Food and Dietary Requirements
Main meals are provided during the hike. You only need to bring your own snacks and personal trail food.

Safety and English-Speaking Guides
