The villages of Dali and Datong are situated high in the mountains above the mouth of the Liwu River which runs through Taroko Gorge. Both villages are cut off from roads and the electricity grid and the aboriginal people who live up there grow their own food and hike supplies in. There are several small B&Bs with campsites making it a great place to stay overnight.
