Songluo Lake

Difficulty – 3(out of 5)   Duration – 2 days and 1 nights (more can be arranged)

Songluo Lake is a beautiful swampy lake that is set in a basin, surrounded on all sides by mountains. The lake is situated at an altitude of around 1300 metres above sea level, which makes the temperatures in summer just about perfect for camping.

We leave Taipei early in the morning to get over into Yilan and on the trail by mid-morning.  The hike in is scenic and a relatively gentle climb.  After a few hours, we will reach a steeper section that leads us over the lip and down into the basin.

Upon arrival at the lake, we set up camp and should have enough time to make a trip to explore the source of the Lumen River nearby.  Then we can eat dinner, relax and watch the stars come out.

After breakfast, we will spend some more time exploring around the lake before packing up and heading back down to the trailhead.  We usually finish the trip off with a relaxing hot spring/hearty meal in Yilan before returning home.

Hiking to Songluo Lake involves around 5 hours of hiking.  We’ll be carrying tents and cooking equipment.  There is some exposure to heights along the trail.

Typically pick up and drop off is from Taipei, but other locations can be arranged, including Taoyuan International Airport. We will travel by car or small van depending upon numbers.  All of our vehicles are insured and all drivers have local licences.

All meals are provided for.  If you have any special dietary requests, allergies or needs, let us know and we’ll be happy to accommodate you.

We’ll be camping next to the lake.  Tents will be provided.

All of our guides are wilderness first responder certified and carry first aid kits.  They have all spent a lot of time hiking in Taiwan and are very experienced in the high mountains.  All of our guides are native speakers of English, but also speak Mandarin and are very knowledgeable about the local mountains, flora/fauna, and culture.

Taiwan Adventures will provide you with $2 million NTD accident insurance.  However, you must have your own travel and medical insurance.  Our partners at World Nomads Insurance can provide you with travel insurance that covers you for high mountain hiking.
