Jialuo Lake

Difficulty – 4 (out of 5)   Duration – 2 days and 1 night (more can be arranged)

Jialuo Lake is actually a group of about 20 lakes, the largest of which is located some 2000m above sea-level and is surrounded by gorgeous pine forests. It’s a great place to escape the heat of the summer and can easily be done in a weekend.

TYPICAL ITINERARY

We will leave Taipei early on the first day and drive over to the mountains of Yilan where the hike begins.  The trail starts following an old forestry road until it reaches a thousand year-old ancient tree.

From there the ascent gets much steeper as we walk through the pine forest up to the ridgeline.  Once we reach the top, then it is a gentle walk through the silvergrass to the main lake.

After setting up camp by the lake, there should still be time to explore some of the other lakes in the area.  Then we spend an evening under the stars before waking early the next day to continue exploring before heading home.

Day 1 – Leave Taipei in the early morning and drive to the trailhead. Hike through the pine forest up to the lake where we set up camp.

Day 2 – Enjoy sunrise and then hike back out. Return to Taipei in the late afternoon.
